Why the Lemosho Route Has the Highest Success Rate
The Lemosho Route is widely considered the finest Kilimanjaro trekking route for those who have the time for an 8-day itinerary. It is the least crowded of the major routes, traverses the full width of the Shira Plateau for stunning views, and offers a gradual, well-designed acclimatisation profile that gives climbers the best chance of reaching Uhuru Peak. Success rates on the 8-day Lemosho regularly exceed 90%.
Lemosho Route Highlights
The route begins on the remote western slope of Kilimanjaro at Londorossi Gate, immediately entering ancient rainforest. After crossing the spectacular open Shira Plateau — a collapsed ancient caldera — it joins the Machame Route at Lava Tower for the crucial acclimatisation day. The final approach via the Southern Circuit and Barafu Base Camp follows the same path as Machame, finishing at Uhuru Peak.

Is Lemosho Right for You?
Lemosho is ideal if you have 8–9 days available, want the best possible summit odds, prefer fewer crowds, and are willing to pay a slight premium for the extra night's camping and guide time. It is our top recommendation for most clients, particularly first-time high-altitude trekkers.
