6 Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Marangu Route

The Marangu Route on Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular trekking routes, known for its comfortable hut accommodations and gradual ascent. Often called the “Coca-Cola Route,” it offers a more straightforward and well-established path to the summit, making it a great option for beginners.

Day 1 - Arrival Day

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Moshi, where your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Take the day to rest, acclimatize, and prepare your gear. Attend a briefing about the climb and enjoy the beautiful views of Kilimanjaro’s foothills.

Day 2 - Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate to complete park formalities. The trail begins through lush rainforest alive with birds and monkeys, then gradually opens into expansive moorland. Along the way, towering lobelias and giant heathers create a unique and otherworldly landscape. Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding slopes and catch glimpses of the rugged peak of Mount Mawenzi rising in the distance.

Day 3 - Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail opens into expansive moorland dotted with giant lobelias and heathers. Take in sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes as the rugged peak of Mount Mawenzi rises in the distance. This steady climb is excellent for acclimatization and prepares you for the higher altitudes ahead.

Day 4 - Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Trek across the stunning alpine desert of the Saddle, between Mount Mawenzi and Kibo Peak. Enjoy the dramatic high-altitude scenery before arriving at Kibo Hut to rest and prepare for the summit.

Day 5 - Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Leave Horombo Hut and trek across the striking alpine desert of the Saddle, the high-altitude plateau between Mount Mawenzi and Kibo Peak. The terrain is dramatic and otherworldly, with vast open spaces and unique high-altitude flora. By the afternoon, reach Kibo Hut, where you’ll rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for your summit attempt tomorrow.

Day 6 - Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, Descend to Horombo Hut

Start your early morning ascent toward Gilman’s Point, continuing along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness a breathtaking sunrise and celebrate your incredible achievement at the summit. After a short rest at Kibo Hut, begin your descent back to Horombo Hut, reflecting on the remarkable journey.

Day 7 - Marangu Gate to Hotel

After breakfast, complete the final descent through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate, and be transferred to your hotel in Moshi .
