8 Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Lemosho Route

The 8 Day Lemosho Route offers a scenic and less crowded climb to Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit. With a longer itinerary for optimal acclimatization, it provides stunning landscapes and one of the highest success rates for trekkers.

Day 1 - Arrival Day

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Relax after your journey and enjoy views of Kilimanjaro from the foothills. Attend a pre-climb briefing with your guide, including gear checks and final preparations for your trek.

Day 2 - Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate to complete park registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest, home to towering trees, colorful birds, and playful monkeys. The gentle uphill walk leads you to Mti Mkubwa Camp, your first night on Kilimanjaro. Immerse yourself in the rich biodiversity of Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes, with sounds of the forest and wildlife creating a serene introduction to the mountain.

Day 3 - Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Leave the rainforest behind as the trail climbs into open moorland. Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the high-altitude Shira Plateau.  Experience the dramatic change from dense forest to open alpine terrain, with rare plants and panoramic views setting the tone for your high-altitude adventure. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp for your overnight stay.

Day 4 - Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Cross the Shira Plateau on a gentle, scenic hike. Encounter unique high-altitude vegetation such as giant lobelias and heathers while your body adjusts to the thinner air.  Take in the serenity of the plateau, with breathtaking views and a sense of solitude in this remote high-altitude environment. Reach Shira 2 Camp for a restful night.

Day 5 - Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower, then Barranco Camp

Climb toward Lava Tower, gaining altitude for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. Dramatic alpine desert landscapes and the towering Mount Mawenzi dominate the scenery.

Day 6 - Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Ascend the famous Barranco Wall and traverse scenic ridges to Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows you to rest while continuing to acclimatize to the high altitude.Enjoy stunning ridgeline views and feel the thrill of climbing the iconic Barranco Wall, a highlight of the Lemosho Route.

Day 7 - Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Climb steadily to Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. The sparse, dramatic landscape of the alpine desert surrounds you, with views of the crater rim in the distance. Prepare for your midnight summit push in this quiet, high-altitude environment, where the sunrises over the peaks promise a spectacular view.

Day 8 - Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak,

Begin your ascent before dawn, trekking to Stella Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest summit. Witness a breathtaking sunrise, celebrate your achievement, .Experience the ultimate triumph of reaching Uhuru Peak, with unforgettable views of the sunrise over the African plains, followed by the rewarding descent through ever-changing landscapes.then descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

Day 9 - Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Complete park formalities, collect your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi .
